WoW Macros – Questions and Answers

27 Oct

Do you use WoW macros? If you don’t, you should! Macros are very useful, they simplify the gameplay of your character, they allow you to save slots in your main quick bar and also enable your to use more abilities than you normally would. Some classes have more abilities, at level 85 of course, than they could fit in their main bars and the only way to play them at maximum is to use WoW macros. Therefore, if you use WoW macros, you will be able to create a great WoW keybinding for your character and become better in raids and especially in arena.

If you haven’t used a WoW macro before, I can answer a few of questions about this World of Warcraft aspect.

1. How to make a WoW macro?

Creating a World of Warcraft macro isn’t hard at all. You just have to go to the macros tab (press ESC to toggle the menu), select an icon for that macro and start writing it.

You don’t need super programming skills to make an effective macro. The easiest macros, the /use ones, are in most cases very useful. Also, the more elaborate WoW macros can be simply copy/pasted from various websites. Of course, chances are for them not to be operational, some may need tweaking, but I guess you get the picture.

2. What to put in your WoW macro?

Depending on the race, class and talent build that you play, there are many abilities that you can and you probably should combine in a WoW macro. As a general idea, as a damage dealer it’s best to have at least one macro that combines several damaging cooldowns, to use when the time is right. Pushing a button like this, you will be able to create a nice DPS burst.

In raids, most classes use a certain skill rotation to maintain a steady DPS, healing or threat if they’re tanking. You can simplify the gameplay of your class by a lot if you manage to combine in a sequence macro at least a part of the abilities in your main rotation.

3. Where to bind your WoW macro?

As I said, having a balanced World of Warcraft keybinding is the key to become a top WoW player. Depending on the utility of a certain WoW macro, you should bind it close at hand, or on a key that’s not in the reach of your left hand.

For example, if you’re using a sequence World of Warcraft macro for your spell rotation, that macros should deffinitely be on your key 1 or 2, or at least in your main quick bar.
